Wind turbines, also known as a wind energy converter, is a mechanism that converts the kinetic energy from wind into usable electrical current.
As featured in some of our photos, there is a wide range of turbine shapes & sizes. Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (VAWT) were developed creating more of an aesthetically pleasing rotation on a vertical axis, much like a mixer you use in the kitchen.
In comparison to the Horizontal Axis Wind Turbines (HAWT) that, you guessed it, spins horizontally just like the traditional windmill.
Turbines range in size from a small couple hundred watts all the way up to an enormous 14+meagwatt!
Generally, the smaller turbines are used in applications like powering auxiliary components for boats, RV, street lights/signs, even homes or off-grid.
When considering the 10kW turbines and beyond, are typically used for harnessing rolling winds in a larger open area of fields, hill-sides, or off-shore applications; directing the massive electrical current into the grid for domestic power use in our homes and cities utility supplier. These arrays of large turbines are referred to as "Wind Farms".
